Deck Cost Estimator

A deck estimate is a small structure plan: footprint, height, support, stairs, guardrails, materials, and the conditions below the finished boards.

Estimate a deck as an exterior structure

Deck cost is shaped by the footprint and by what supports it. Identify whether the project is a low platform, elevated deck, porch, screened enclosure, or covered structure before choosing boards.

Scope questions worth answering

  • What are the deck length, width, height above grade, and connection to the house?
  • How many stairs, landings, guards, handrails, posts, beams, and footings are needed?
  • Is the ledger sound, and does the site require demolition, excavation, or difficult access?
  • Which decking and railing system is being considered: pressure-treated, cedar, composite, PVC, or another material?

Budget assumptions and exclusions

Separate demolition, footings, framing, decking, railings, stairs, drainage, lighting, and simple pergola or roof work. An early range does not certify an existing ledger, determine structural adequacy, approve a covered roof, or replace permit and code review. Elevated work needs a qualified field assessment.
